Michael Wesch Lecture

I found the Michael Wesch lecture on YouTube quite interesting. Personally I have not been on YouTube more than 6 times in my life: a few times to see some music videos, my friends uploaded a couple silly videos, and I also went on to find educational videos for an assignment. When we watched the lecture in class, I did not realize how much of an impact YouTube had on society and the world. I thought it silly that people get angry just because someone who was making videos or vlogging was personifying themselves as someone else. Don't people have the right to do that? However...if people are doing it in a vicious manner or harmful way, than it makes me angry. The internet can be a very dangerous place..there are predators. But there are also wonderful things that can come out of YouTube as well: I liked the vlogger who wore a mask but brought messages of creativity and peace. When watching his lecture, I also wondered if EMU does such a collaborative project in any of the courses, referring to (I believe) the "Anthropological Approach to YouTube." I have not done such a project for any of my studies. I also did not realize just how many people go on YouTube just to view, and to post videos. I have not posted any videos because I just haven't felt the need or want to. When I saw that we are going to be making a short video and posting it to YouTube for this ENG class...I sighed, and groaned a bit initially. I am still hesitant but happy that I do not have to show my face. However that thought is silly because I am on FB and post pictures (that only my friends can see). But I'm sure there are pictures of me in my friends' albums that people who are not my "friends" can see. I would not have watched this video had it not been shown in my ENG class but I am glad that I saw it and would suggest for others to watch it as well.
